This preface intends to present Angelo Michele Piemontese’s new work within the complete framework of the author’s studies on the history of diplomatic, political, and cultural relations between two regions, Italy and Persia, both of which have represented very different state entities with varying territorial borders over the centuries, but whose centuries-long web of confrontation represents a central fabric of the history of the Eurasian continent. The preface sheds light on Piemontese’s method, which this volume exhibits in an essential way: to collect a vast harvest of news and clues, and to reorder them in cartographic form, providing the reader with a map to be used with acumen for further exploration and discoveries in all possible directions.
